Because of Winn~Dixie

Because of Winn~Dixie
Because of Winn-Dixie written by Kate DiCamillo is 182 pages long is filled with drama, comedy, and some sadness. The main characters are Opal, her dog, Winn-Dixie, and her father, the preacher. Opal goes into the grocery store, Winn-Dixie and finds a dog running through the store and she decides to make him her pet. She names him Winn-Dixie and convinces her father to let her keep him for her pet. Along the way she meets many friends, one of them, Gloria Dump, whom other people thought was a witch. Another person she met was Miss Franny Block, who loves to tell stories. This book is a character vs. self because Opal wants to try to know everything she can about her deceased mother.
In Because of Winn-Dixie Opal wants to remember everything about her mother and works hard to remember all that she can. This makes this book character vs. self. One of the things that her father tells her was that her mom was a fast runner. Opal always remembered these things by picturing them in her mind. Opal's mother couldn't cook, but she definitely could garden. Opal always remembered that her mother hated being a preachers wife. That seemed to stick in her mind and Opal kept trying to convince herself to get it out. In the end, Opal, her father, Winn-Dixie, and her mother's spirit lived together in peace and harmony. But Winn-Dixie was still rambunctious.

Are you There God? Its me, Margaret

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret written by Judy Blume and is 149 pages long is filled with drama, maturity, and the search for religion. The main characters in the story are Margaret, Nancy, and Grandma, Sylvia. The problem in the story is that Margaret’s parents are both different religions, Jewish and Christian. They are married and happy but Margaret doesn’t now what religion to choose. Between that and becoming a woman are a lot to think about. But Margaret has a secret that nobody knows which is that she talks to God anyway. In the end, Margaret just doesn’t have a religion, which is perfectly fine with her, her family, and friends. The main conflict in Are you There God? It’s me Margaret was character vs. society. Margaret wants to mature and develop faster than the rate she is. She wants to be like her friends. Which in this case is society.

In the book Are you there God? It’s me Margaret, the main conflict is character vs. society because Margaret wants to choose her own religion between Jewish and Christianity and wants her body to mature faster than it is. Her family’s choice of what her religion should be affects which religion she ultimately chooses to practice. Margaret’s friends sometimes think she is wimpy and immature. So Margaret wants to be like them, like a woman. She once exaggerated her appearance to look like a mature young woman. She did this mostly because of her friend’s thoughts and opinions about her and what boys will think. The moral of the story is basically just to be patient with your body and to not care what other people think. Be independent. Be yourself. Yes, I would recommend this book, but only to the more mature group of people and preferably girls. It’s a great novel and very realistic.
