Because of Winn~Dixie
Because of Winn-Dixie written by Kate DiCamillo is 182 pages long is filled with drama, comedy, and some sadness. The main characters are Opal, her dog, Winn-Dixie, and her father, the preacher. Opal goes into the grocery store, Winn-Dixie and finds a dog running through the store and she decides to make him her pet. She names him Winn-Dixie and convinces her father to let her keep him for her pet. Along the way she meets many friends, one of them, Gloria Dump, whom other people thought was a witch. Another person she met was Miss Franny Block, who loves to tell stories. This book is a character vs. self because Opal wants to try to know everything she can about her deceased mother.
In Because of Winn-Dixie Opal wants to remember everything about her mother and works hard to remember all that she can. This makes this book character vs. self. One of the things that her father tells her was that her mom was a fast runner. Opal always remembered these things by picturing them in her mind. Opal's mother couldn't cook, but she definitely could garden. Opal always remembered that her mother hated being a preachers wife. That seemed to stick in her mind and Opal kept trying to convince herself to get it out. In the end, Opal, her father, Winn-Dixie, and her mother's spirit lived together in peace and harmony. But Winn-Dixie was still rambunctious.
